[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row top_padding=”35″][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text]If, for whatever reason, you have been absent from work without pay, these absences will affect the build up of your pension.\u00a0 However, when you return to work your employer will always give you the option to buy back any lost pension – providing your absence was authorised.<\/p>\n
Who pays for the cost of the lost pension?<\/strong><\/p>\n If you have not been given the option to repay, please contact your Employer – find out the estimated cost to purchase lost pension. \u00a0<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n These absences\u00a0will be treated in the following way:<\/b><\/p>\n Sickness<\/strong> –\u00a0your pension will NOT be affected even if you enter a period of ‘no pay’<\/p>\n Maternity, adoption or paternity<\/strong> – your pension will NOT be affected during the first 39 weeks, even if you earn less than normal or have ‘no pay’<\/p>\n Strike days<\/strong> – your pension will be affected, but, you will be given the option to buy back lost pension, but you will pay ALL reinstatement costs<\/p>\n Jury Service<\/strong> – your pension will be affected, but, you will be given the option to buy back lost pension<\/p>\n Reserve Forces duty<\/strong> – If you are on reserve forces service leave and you elect to remain in the LGPS, your pension will be worked out using your assumed pensionable pay.\u00a0 Using your assumed pensionable pay ensures that you will continue to build up pension as if you were in work rather than on reserve forces service leave.\u00a0 Your employer needs to tell you the amount of basic pension contributions you and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) must pay[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column el_class=”siderow” animation=”fade-in-from-right” width=”1\/3″][vc_column_text el_class=”boxblue”]<\/p>\n Lost Pension Calculator <\/i><\/a>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”boxblue”]<\/p>\n An impartial service, set up by the Government to give free and unbiased advice.\u00a0 You’ll find some great budget planners and other tools<\/p>\n\n
