If you die as an active member of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), a lump sum death grant of 3 times your annual pensionable pay is payable as requested in your Death Grant Nomination Form.
If you also have a previous period of LGPS membership (known as deferred), we will calculate the death grant payable from the active period of membership and the deferred period of membership – and will pay whichever is the higher amount.
Completing a Death Nomination Form will allow you to nominate one or more individuals or organisations to receive payment of the death grant.
If you have not completed a Death Grant Expression of Wish Form the payment will be made to your Estate / Personal Representatives, but payment could take longer.
We will always try to pay your Death Grant to the person(s) nominated, however, we are not legally bound by the nomination and Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Pension Fund has absolute discretion how your Death Grant is paid.
